Sit back and watch a film at these 5 hotels’ mini cinemas – for free

Have you ever immersed yourself so deeply in a country’s culture that all you want to at the end of the day is to #findyourself by binge-watching a Netflix show or rewatching your favourite film for the umpteenth time back at the hotel? You are certainly not alone in this, and could be suffering from cultural overload.

Thankfully, hotels nowadays are going the extra mile to make their guests feel right at home – including setting up mini cinemas or an alfresco movie experience at no extra charge. Here’s a list of five hotels where you can curl up and catch a film on the big screen without leaving the compound.

For the classic film buffs:
Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway, Ireland

In Glenlo Abbey Hotel’s grand compound that is steeped in history, its lush Abbey Movie Theatre looks akin to the classic home cinemas of the wealthy in the 90s. Red velvet chairs, mahogany walls and soft lighting all make for a cosy and refined space where a film is screened at 3pm and 10pm daily. It’s all about the classics here with a selection that includes Gone With The Wind and residents’ favourite – Murder On The Orient Express.

For the Hollywood-obsessed:
Hotel deLuxe, Portland, USA

If you are lucky, you could catch Hotel deLuxe signature Pop-up Cinema experience of classic Hollywood flicks. The impromptu affair usually occurs on designated Sundays throughout the month in the hotel’s classy Screening Room, complete with a 16-foot screen and flashy gold curtains.

For the romantics:
Kasbah Tamadot, Asni, Morocco

Nestled in the magnificent Atlas Mountains is Sir Richard Branson’s oasis of calm, Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco. Cinema nights are organised under the stars in snug tents for couples to cuddle up in. A large projector screen is erected next to the pool and the movies are Moroccan-inspired hits including one of the most romantic films ever: Casablanca.

For the little ones:
Kinderhotel Alphotel, Mittelberg, Austria

At the family-friendly Kinderhotels across Europe, only the kids are allowed access at the Smileyplexx, an indoor entertainment area where cartoons and kid flicks are screened for the little ones to sit back and relax after a day of hijinks. At the resort, both the parents and children enjoy a carefree holiday with enriching activities for both.

For the hipsters:
The Pearl Hotel, San Diego, USA

The Pearl Hotel sets up its cinema social ‘Dive-In Theatre’ weekly, and the fuss-free affair takes place outdoors by the poolside lounge. Guests will get to sink into pool chairs, grab a drink, mingle and catch a blockbuster or vintage movie they might have probably seen before but don’t mind rewatching in the cool setting. The upcoming movie list includes Selena, Grease and Almost Famous.
